🧩 Parent (or base) layer:
The layer doing the masking. This is the shape or object that defines the visible area — for example, a text layer, vector shape, or pixel layer.
🎨 Child (or clipped) layer:
The layer being clipped inside the parent — like a texture, image, or gradient. In the Layers panel, it’s indented below the parent with a small downward arrow.

Create your layer that you want to “Clip” to your text.
In this case it will be a gradient layer, but it could also be any sort of photo/image/graphic/texture that you want to apply within the text.
- Use the Rectangle tool to add a rectangle to the space that the text will go. (you can move this layer after the fact, but its easiest to try and place it where it needs to go first)
- Adjust the “fill” of the rectangle by clicking on the fill option in the top tool bar, and selecting gradient.
- add colors to the gradient by clicking on the line, the nodes can be adjusted by clicking and dragging, thus changing the blend of color.
- You can use the color picker tool if you are working with specific inspiration

Next we need to add our text layers
- in this specific case I will be using three text layers because it has a double outline
