THIS WORKS IN BOTH V2 AND THE NEW AFFINITY STUDIO
</aside>
Currently, in Affinity Publisher 2, there is no way to use the find and replace panel to find specific text and replace with an image directly.
The way we will get around this is by using our image and the paragraph styles panel to create a paragraph decoration and save it as a new paragraph style.
Full process video at the bottom of the page
-
Find an image you would like to use as your scene break.
Drag and Drop or use the “place” tool to insert this image into your typeset

- Crop the image as needed and convert the image to curves by right clicking and selecting “convert to curves”

- Add the converted image to your “swatches” panel by right clicking again and selecting “add to swatches” and then “from fill”

It should now show up in the “swatches” panel as a new “color”

- Open your “paragraph” panel and scroll down to the section titled “decorations”. We are going to create a new paragraph decoration “fill”
this next bit can be a little finicky, but if you are working with a typeset with a ton of scene breaks I promise it is worth it to figure out. after you do it a couple times it is very easy.
- Highlight your scene break text to format. In my case I am going to highlight (***) The text itself doesn’t really matter, its just what is already present from using the blak books macro and I’m just going to keep it the same.
- Click on the decoration from fill option

- Then open the decoration background fill color → open swatches → select your image you added.

- The image will initially appear warped and disproportionate
